You won't believe how easy the ANTHBOT M5 LiDAR robot mower is to set up and run. As someone who appreciates a well-kept lawn, I've had my share of robot mower frustrations. This unit, however, simplifies automated lawn care in a significant way, especially by eliminating the need for an external RTK antenna.

What I Built
The ANTHBOT M5 LiDAR arrived with everything needed for a quick setup. Inside the box, I found the mower itself, a charging dock, a charging brick with an extension cable, basic tools, earth screws for securing the dock, and a quick start guide. The blades came pre-installed, and the drive wheels feature an aggressive tread for excellent traction.
The physical setup was incredibly straightforward. I simply bolted the charging pad down to the ground using the included earth screws, placed the robot on the pad, and plugged it into a standard outdoor outlet. That was it for the hardware. The rest of the magic happens in the app.
Why It Works
The key innovation here is the ANTHBOT M5 LiDAR's reliance on 360° LiDAR and dual vision sensors, rather than a separate RTK antenna. This eliminates the biggest headache I've had with previous robot mowers: finding a spot for the RTK antenna with a clear view of the sky and a nearby power source. With the M5 LiDAR, I could place the charging dock right next to my house, where I have easy access to power and strong Wi-Fi, without worrying about signal reception for the mower's navigation.
This allows for a much more flexible and user-friendly installation. The mower maps the lawn by being driven around its perimeter via the app, defining the boundaries. It uses its built-in sensors for precise navigation within these mapped areas, ensuring systematic mowing patterns that leave those coveted straight lines.

Math & Run-Time Numbers
I started mowing at 2:00 PM with the battery at 99%. The mower ran for 61 minutes, covering 137 square meters, before returning to the dock with 13% battery remaining. It then recharged and resumed. In total, the mower ran for approximately 110 minutes (actual mowing time) plus an extra 60 minutes of recharge time to cover 250 square meters. While the mower effectively completes the job, the website's estimated runtimes are quite optimistic. For larger lawns or more frequent mowing, sizing up to a model with a larger battery capacity would be a wise choice.

- Edge trimming requires manual touch-up as it can't get perfectly flush with walls.
- Website runtime estimates are optimistic; consider a larger battery for extensive lawns.
When To Use This vs. Alternatives
The ANTHBOT M5 LiDAR is a sweet spot for homeowners and tinkerers who want a truly autonomous lawn care solution without the complexity of traditional boundary wires or cumbersome RTK antenna placement. If you're a "lawn snob" like me who appreciates crisp stripes and a systematic approach, this mower delivers. It's particularly well-suited for yards with varying terrain or minor obstacles that more basic robot mowers might struggle with.
However, if your lawn is consistently overgrown or you prefer a mulching function to return clippings to the soil, you might need to adjust your expectations or consider a different type of mower. For those with very simple, flat lawns, a less advanced (and potentially cheaper) robot mower might suffice, but you'd miss out on the M5 LiDAR's advanced navigation and ease of setup.
Bottom Line
I am very impressed with the ANTHBOT M5 LiDAR. Its ditching of the RTK antenna for advanced LiDAR and vision systems is a huge step forward, making setup incredibly fast and user-friendly. It handles challenging grass conditions and obstacles with surprising power and intelligence, leaving behind beautifully striped lawns. While it doesn't mulch and edge trimming isn't perfect, the overall convenience and performance make it a strong recommendation for anyone looking to automate their lawn care.
