Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR: Precise, Quiet Robot Mower

I recently tested the Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR, a robot lawn mower that promises precise cuts and advanced navigation. While it delivers excellent striping and quiet operation, I found some quirks, particularly with edge trimming, that are worth noting before you buy.

What I Built

Unboxing the Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR was straightforward. The package included the mower itself, a charging dock, an RTK antenna (with pole and ground stake), various cables, tools, and documentation. Setup was refreshingly simple. I picked a suitable location for the charging dock, secured it with earth screws, and installed the RTK antenna in an open area away from the house. Connecting the charging and RTK cables to the dock was easy, as they are keyed to fit only one way. After plugging the power brick into an outdoor outlet, the physical setup was complete.

The next step was app configuration. After pushing the mower onto its charging dock, I used the Anthbot app to connect it to my Wi-Fi. The app immediately prompted me to create a map of my lawn. Using the app's remote control feature, I drove the mower around the perimeter of my backyard. The mower automatically mapped the area as I drove, including a no-go zone around a tree in the middle of the lawn. This hands-on mapping was intuitive and precise.

Why It Works

The Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR employs a sophisticated navigation system. It integrates 360° LiDAR, RTK/NetRTK, and dual AI vision for accurate positioning and obstacle avoidance without the need for boundary wires. The RTK antenna provides precise centimeter-level positioning, ensuring the mower knows exactly where it is in your yard. The dual AI vision system enhances obstacle detection, allowing the mower to identify and avoid objects in its path.

The app offers extensive control over the mowing process. You can adjust cutting heights (from 30mm to 70mm), set mowing frequency (single or twice), and customize mowing direction. I found that a "twice" mowing count, creating a checkerboard pattern, significantly improves cut quality and prevents “mohawking” – those unsightly uncut strips that can appear with a single pass. The brushless motor contributes to its surprisingly quiet operation, making it far less disruptive than traditional gas or electric mowers.

I started the first mowing session with the battery at 98% state of charge. The mower ran for 81 minutes, covering 155m², before returning to its charging dock at 13% battery level. It took approximately 1.5 hours to recharge to 82%. For the second round, I sent it to mow another 60m² in the side yard, which took 38 minutes and left the battery at 24%.

This data suggests that while it can cover a decent area on a single charge, the advertised battery capacity might be a bit optimistic for real-world conditions, especially with taller or denser grass. My cool-season grass was struggling in the July heat, but the mower still demonstrated ample power.

When To Use This vs. Alternatives

The Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR is an excellent choice for homeowners who value a pristine, striped lawn and quiet operation. If you have a relatively flat yard with clear boundaries or soft edges (like those that can be slightly overlapped by the mower), this unit will shine. It's also great for those who enjoy smart home tech and want detailed control via an app.

However, if your lawn has many hard, untrimmable edges, be prepared to do some manual string trimming. If you have a very large lawn or demand maximum runtime, consider purchasing a model with a larger battery than you think you need, or be prepared for multiple charging cycles. For those with complex yards or multiple distinct lawn areas, the multi-zone mapping is a huge advantage, even if it requires manual gate-opening.

Bottom Line

The Anthbot M9 Pro LiDAR offers an impressive balance of budget and performance. Its precise cutting, beautiful striping, and quiet operation make it a strong contender in the robot mower market. While the edge-trimming limitation and conservative battery claims are minor annoyances, the continuous firmware updates and robust app functionality demonstrate Anthbot’s commitment to improving their product. Overall, it's a solid recommendation for a hands-off, beautifully mowed lawn, provided you plan for its specific quirks.
